Not very scary films for Halloween

If you aren't going to attend some huge event on this holiday or you're planning to throw a party at home, you will need to choose one or two interesting films to watch with friends or family. There are plenty of horrors, but I don't like to be very scared, so I've made my own list with interesting films, which are Halloween-related and harmless. Almost.

P.S. I promise it is not all just about Tim Burton.

1."The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)
What? Christmas? I know. But there are more pumpkins than Christmas trees, more skeletons than lights and the main character is the King of all Scariness. Tim Burton created an animated masterpiece, which is creepy and dark, but also charming and even romantic.

2."Fright Night" (1985)
Tom Holland wrote a great vampire story, which is way better than present horrors about these incredible night creatures. Chris Sarandon played a character, which I will never forget. His vampire is powerful, scary, hypnotising and bloody. His common scenes with actress Amanda Bearse are very intimate and sexy. And the atmosphere of this horror is tense and old style.

3."Corpse Bride" (2005)
Tim Burton shows that there is life after death and he does it with dark humour. Love story, dancing skeletons (Danny Elfman is singing with them in "Remains Of The Day") and a fatal proposal in the graveyard. It is beautifully made and you can hear there voices of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Emily Watson.

4."Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (2001)
You know I'm a fan of this story, but for Halloween I chose the first film. Why? Because there is one memorable scene in the Great Hall, where everyone is celebrating this scary holiday. Plus, there is lots of magic, which is very proper for our occasion.

5."Sleepy Hollow" (1999)
What can be better than a Headless Horseman, who is terrorising a little town? Maybe Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, who faints every time when sees blood. Or beautiful young Christina Ricci as an aristocratic lady. Burton can be scary, when he wants to make us look back every time we hear sound of the hooves.

6."The Crow" (1994)
Tragic, dark, horrifying... This film is incredible story about love and revenge. Brandon Lee makes me cry every time, because it was his last film, but he made his character memorable, strong and painful. I like his Gothic make-up and outfit. My favourite moment is when he plays "Inferno" on electric guitar.

7."The Addams Family" (1991) and "Addams Family Values" (1993)
The creepiest, kookiest, spookiest, ookiest family of all times knows how to make you laugh. Great cast, dark jokes and very old mansion with personal cemetery. Lovely, isn't it? Two masterpieces from Barry Sonnenfeld.

8."From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996)
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are here to make us scream. Their vampires are ugly bloodsuckers, who are going to kill every human left in that cursed bar. George Clooney rocks here along with Tom Savini, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Salma Hayek, who played the sexiest female vampire of all times.

9."Van Helsing" (2004)
I chose this one over "Dracula" and "Interview with the Vampire", because I love this film more. Hugh Jackman became a great vampire hunter, Kate Beckinsale is feisty and Richard Roxburgh played one of my favourite vampires. As a bonus there are a werewolf, three female Dracula's brides, a Frankenstein and funny priest.

10."The Wolfman" (2010)
Ok, this one can be scary, but I can tell you it is more dangerous, Gothic and very tense than horrifying. Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins made it unforgettable father-son story. Also there is howling and a full moon...

11."Beetle Juice" (1988)
Michael Keaton makes an unbelievable performance, while Winona Ryder talks to ghosts and Catherine O'Hara is the best at making creepy stuff for home. With all those costumes this film is very Halloween oriented.

Want more not very scary films to see on this Halloween?
I can suggest "Zombieland", "Shaun of the Dead", "Die Nacht der lebenden Loser", "Once Bitten" with young Jim Carrey, "The Little Vampire", all Tim Burton or Quentin Tarantino films, "The Frighteners", "Ghost Busters", "Casper", "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark", "Coraline".
