Top-5 movies of the week - 02.06 - 08.06

This week started a summer movie season with a big blockbuster about the beginning of the x-men story. The time was chosen right, because many of us have seen "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and were ready to see something even bigger.

1. "X-Men: First Class"
Director Matthew Vaughn tells us a story about how Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (aka Magneto) became enemies. I watched it a couple hours ago and I'm still impressed by this movie. Despite the special effects, mutant's make-up and beautiful views, it has many advantages. Actors James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender did a great job, creating such strong, independent and complete characters. They made a good drama of the friendship, understanding and revenge on the screen. Younger actors made it more interesting, especially Jennifer Lawrence with her young Mystique story. So now this movie is official my favorite part of all X-men. And it's not only me, "X-Men: First Class" continues getting positive reviews from more and more critics.

2. "Submarine"
A dramatic comedy from director Richard Ayoade about a teenage boy Oliver Tate, played by young actor Craig Roberts. He wants to discover his way, to reunite his parents, to date a nice girl and to loose his virginity. His new girlfriend is a bit unusual, so he falls desperately in love with her, making romantic evenings and writing incredibly romantic love letters. This is a truly British story and a great soundtrack confirms it.

3. "Beginners"
I accidentally found out that the new movie with one of my favorite actors is coming out. Mélanie Laurent, Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer star in another dramatic comedy. Oliver meets the love of his life called Anna and starts to remember his parents' marriage. His mother and father lived a long happy together life, until a couple of  months after she died, he confessed that he was gay. And when Oliver reunites with his father, Hal, again, he discovers that Hal has not much time left. Also main character tries not to ruin his relationship with beautifully unpredictable Anna. Directed by Mike Mills.

4. "Midnight in Paris"
There is a huge chance that you haven't watched a new movie from Woody Allen. So you have some time to catch up. This director is great at making such alive romantic comedies. The main parts are played by talented actresses Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and actors Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody. This romantic story tells us about family business trip to Paris, where everyone falls in love with their fantasies.

5. "The Hangover Part II"
Ok, fine. I dislike such pointless comedies, but many people seem to like this hangover stories. Why? Because it's good for the big company of friends, who want to shill out and just laugh. Todd Phillips tells us this story all over again, but it moves from Vegas to Bangkok. I think there are many other movies, which deserve your attention.
