"The Muppets" (2011) - "The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo" parody trailer

I saw one parody trailer, where all Muppets along with two humans went crazy and made fun of some horror films. Then I just couldn't stop myself. I found another one and I loved it. It is a great parody of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" trailer. All the details, very similar soundtrack, tense atmosphere and those huge blinking titles match perfectly. "The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo" is one more thing that makes me like this upcoming film even more (I'm talking here about "The Muppets").

Starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper.

Release dates - November 23, 2011 (Canada, USA), February 10, 2012 (UK).

P.S. It isn't that "big" post, I was talking about. That one will come up in a few days.

"My Week With Marilyn" (2011) - Black-and-white poster

While I'm writing a much bigger post, I thought I should share this beautiful black-and-white poster from upcoming biopic about Marilyn Monroe. This film has already been presented at the New York Film Festival and some critics love it, but some dislike it. I'm trying not to listen to them, because I know I'll like it.

Moviefone revealed this new and gorgeous poster. Michelle Williams was photographed by Brigitte Lacombe, whose works you can see by visiting her official website.

Starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dominic Cooper with Emma Watson and Judi Dench.
Directed by Simon Curtis ("David Copperfield" 2000, "A Short Stay In Switzerland" 2009).

Release dates - November 23 (USA), November 25 (UK).

Not very scary films for Halloween

If you aren't going to attend some huge event on this holiday or you're planning to throw a party at home, you will need to choose one or two interesting films to watch with friends or family. There are plenty of horrors, but I don't like to be very scared, so I've made my own list with interesting films, which are Halloween-related and harmless. Almost.

P.S. I promise it is not all just about Tim Burton.

1."The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)
What? Christmas? I know. But there are more pumpkins than Christmas trees, more skeletons than lights and the main character is the King of all Scariness. Tim Burton created an animated masterpiece, which is creepy and dark, but also charming and even romantic.

2."Fright Night" (1985)
Tom Holland wrote a great vampire story, which is way better than present horrors about these incredible night creatures. Chris Sarandon played a character, which I will never forget. His vampire is powerful, scary, hypnotising and bloody. His common scenes with actress Amanda Bearse are very intimate and sexy. And the atmosphere of this horror is tense and old style.

3."Corpse Bride" (2005)
Tim Burton shows that there is life after death and he does it with dark humour. Love story, dancing skeletons (Danny Elfman is singing with them in "Remains Of The Day") and a fatal proposal in the graveyard. It is beautifully made and you can hear there voices of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Emily Watson.

4."Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (2001)
You know I'm a fan of this story, but for Halloween I chose the first film. Why? Because there is one memorable scene in the Great Hall, where everyone is celebrating this scary holiday. Plus, there is lots of magic, which is very proper for our occasion.

5."Sleepy Hollow" (1999)
What can be better than a Headless Horseman, who is terrorising a little town? Maybe Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, who faints every time when sees blood. Or beautiful young Christina Ricci as an aristocratic lady. Burton can be scary, when he wants to make us look back every time we hear sound of the hooves.

6."The Crow" (1994)
Tragic, dark, horrifying... This film is incredible story about love and revenge. Brandon Lee makes me cry every time, because it was his last film, but he made his character memorable, strong and painful. I like his Gothic make-up and outfit. My favourite moment is when he plays "Inferno" on electric guitar.

7."The Addams Family" (1991) and "Addams Family Values" (1993)
The creepiest, kookiest, spookiest, ookiest family of all times knows how to make you laugh. Great cast, dark jokes and very old mansion with personal cemetery. Lovely, isn't it? Two masterpieces from Barry Sonnenfeld.

8."From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996)
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are here to make us scream. Their vampires are ugly bloodsuckers, who are going to kill every human left in that cursed bar. George Clooney rocks here along with Tom Savini, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Salma Hayek, who played the sexiest female vampire of all times.

9."Van Helsing" (2004)
I chose this one over "Dracula" and "Interview with the Vampire", because I love this film more. Hugh Jackman became a great vampire hunter, Kate Beckinsale is feisty and Richard Roxburgh played one of my favourite vampires. As a bonus there are a werewolf, three female Dracula's brides, a Frankenstein and funny priest.

10."The Wolfman" (2010)
Ok, this one can be scary, but I can tell you it is more dangerous, Gothic and very tense than horrifying. Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins made it unforgettable father-son story. Also there is howling and a full moon...

11."Beetle Juice" (1988)
Michael Keaton makes an unbelievable performance, while Winona Ryder talks to ghosts and Catherine O'Hara is the best at making creepy stuff for home. With all those costumes this film is very Halloween oriented.

Want more not very scary films to see on this Halloween?
I can suggest "Zombieland", "Shaun of the Dead", "Die Nacht der lebenden Loser", "Once Bitten" with young Jim Carrey, "The Little Vampire", all Tim Burton or Quentin Tarantino films, "The Frighteners", "Ghost Busters", "Casper", "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark", "Coraline".

"In the Land of Blood and Honey" (2011) - Trailer and thoughts

Last week was full of interesting news, but my favorite is a trailer release of Angelina Jolie's directorial debut. It has a beautiful and dramatic title "In the Land of Blood and Honey", there are no Hollywood stars and it's the first time, when this talented woman wrote the whole script and then spent many months directing it in Eastern Europe. Interesting fact is that the film was shot in English and the Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian language, also known as BHS.

This story is about the Bosnian War, the loss and the big love. To be honest, this topic is very painful for those people, whose history it is. That is why some people say this film is a disregard of those, who died there.

A Serbian man and a young Bosnian-Muslim woman met each other and fell in love while there is a destruction and death everywhere. So their love is forbidden and fated. Main parts are played by local actors - Zana Marjanovic and Goran Kostic. You can also see there famous Rade Serbedzija, a former Yugoslavian actor, who started his career long time ago. His last part was in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" as the wandmaker Gregorovitch.

There is information that Angelina has already been a director of a documentary "A Place in Time", but did anybody see it? I think it was made for television in 2007. "In the Land of Blood and Honey" is more complicated and I hope it will be a great debut for her.

Release date - December 23, 2011 (USA)

"The Muppets" posters are going crazy, stupid... love?

Yesterday four new couple posters were revealed on "The Muppets" Facebook page. I like them, because they are funny, colourful and with very suitable titles. What can be good for an all-ages animated film? Wait a minute. Aren't these posters seem to be familiar? Yes, they do, if you've seen posters for this summer's romantic comedy called "Crazy, Stupid, Love". That posters were made in similar colours, with 2-3 characters and similar phrases on them. And did you noticed their background?

I post just two of "Crazy, Stupid, Love" posters, it you want to see them all, click here.

Top-5 movies of the week - 21.10 - 27.10

Hi, everyone! I hope you don't forget to watch good movie these rainy days. There are three directorial debuts, which you might like. Maybe one of their filmmakers will become world famous in the next few years. We'll see.

1."Retreat"
Nice couple lives in a picturesque and peaceful place. All seams fine, until one young man runs into their cottage and tells them there is a dangerous virus in the city, so they should be prepared. They've already turned a comfortable house into some sort of bunker when young couple understands that this danger isn't outside. Its trailer reminded me "28 Days Later", but there is a huge difference. You don't know whether out there is an epidemic or that guy is simply insane.
Directed by Carl Tibbetts, it's his debut.
Starring Cillian Murphy, Thandie Newton, Jamie Bell.
Trailer.

2."Oranges And Sunshine"
Based on a true story, this movie tells us about Margaret Humphreys, a social worker from Nottingham, who tries to fix the horrible government's mistake. Many children were forced to move from the United Kingdom to Australia. Now they want to find their relatives, to reunite with families and to discover who they really are. But there is a system, which doesn't like to admit its wrong and inhuman actions and just one woman, who fights it. I should say it is very inspiring story.
Directed by Jim Loach, it's his debut.
Starring Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving with David Wenham.
Trailer.

3."Martha Marcy May Marlene"
Martha, a young woman, calls her sister to pick her up in the middle of nowhere. After returning to their home, she experiences great difficulties to live a normal life. Painful memories and increasing paranoia don't give her a chance to start over. She might have done some horrible things in the past, which now are haunting her. This psychological drama looks to be very tense with some unexpected plot twists.
Directed by T. Sean Durkin, it's his debut.
Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Hugh Dancy.
Trailer.

4."Paranormal Activity 3"
It's the third movie and people aren't still tired of being scared of the same story. I'm not a big fan of horrors, so I haven't even watched its trailer. The one thing you should know: it's prequel, which has to show us how this chilling story begins.
Directed by Henry Joost , Ariel Schulman.
Starring Katie Featherston.
Trailer.

5."The Three Musketeers"
Don't expect from it something huge and impressive. It looks like this new story based on Alexandre Dumas' legendary novel is a disaster of this season. With such strong cast, impressive fights, gorgeous costumes and special effects, this movie hasn't become critics' favorite. Plus you have to over pay, because there is 3D. "The Three Musketeers" is very expensive pop flick and I won't compare it to Guy Ritchie's great "Sherlock Holmes" anymore.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson ("Resident Evil", 2002).
Starring Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz.
Trailer.

"When Harry Left Hogwarts" - Teaser

British filmmaker Morgan Matthews was lucky to be present on the set of both "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows" parts. His interesting documentary will be a bonus on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Thompson, Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman, Warwick Davis, many other actors and studio staff members were interviewed for this documentary. It also shows how many impressive scenes were filmed, for example, there was a real fire on the Quidditch field.

DVD and Blu-ray release dates - November 10 (Russia), December 2 (UK). To see the dates for other countries visit Muggle net.

To discover other bonus features click here.

As for me, I'll get the whole 8 films set, which will be available from the same time.

"Sherlock Holmes 2" (2011) - Second trailer

Brand new "A Game of Shadows" trailer has been revealed and it looks great. The Trio (aka Holmes, Watson and dangerously beautiful Ms. Adler) are in big trouble again. There are new villain, new secrets, new shootings and Sherlock Holmes has a new lipstick. Costumes, special effects and gothic decorations are incredible and created a dramatic atmosphere. And I'm glad that this film will be also full of witty jokes and sarcasm of the main characters.

Favourite line:
- What do you see?
- Everything. That is my curse.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris (son of talented actor Richard Harris), Eddie Marsan, Stephen Fry and Noomi Rapace.
Directed by Guy Ritchie.

Release dates - December 16, 2011 (UK, USA), December 22, 2011 (Germany)

Two strangest Angelina Jolie films

It's probably two strangest short films set in the 90s, but I like both of them. Their stories are similar. One guy married an eccentric woman and does everything she asks. Even if he doesn't like it or it can be dangerous for his health or his life.

These films weren't the first Angelina Jolie starred in and she was just 18 years old while filming it. But she looks so powerful, beautiful and proud, so that I'm not surprised that her character has such great influence on this poor guy.

Every time I watch them, I always have a feeling that I see something very personal and intimate.

Directed by Steven Shainberg ("Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus", 2006).

"Alice and Viril"

"Angela and Viril"

"Shame" (2011) - Tailer and other stuff

"Shame" tells us a story of a 30-year-old man, who has serious sex addiction. But it gets even more interesting, when his wayward sister starts helping him, moves in with him and makes his life more complicated. The jury at the Venice Film Festival was very impressed by Michael's performance and gave him Coppa Volpi for the Best Actor (a huge goblet). And critics love this movie for its provocation and power.

Warning: there are some naked scenes including the main character. It's for you to decide whether you'll like it or not.

Directed by Steve McQueen ("Hunger", 2008). It is his second collaboration with Mr. Fassbender.
Starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan as Brandon and his sister Sissy.

Release dates - December 2, 2011 (USA), December 7, 2011 (France), January 13, 2012 (UK).

Top-5 movies of the week - 14.10 - 20.10

1."The Skin I Live In"
A modern Frankenstein story. Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin since his wife was burned in a car crash. He was possessed by this idea and after twelve years, he manages to make a skin that is a real shield against every assault. Now he needs to be patient to take vengeance on his worst enemy. This movie looks like a very tense mystic thriller.
Directed and written by Pedro Almodóvar.
Starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya.
Trailer.

2."Footloose"
A remake of a 1984 movie, which due to critic Roger Ebert has the same script. If you saw the original, you could pretend you're re-watching it. If you haven't seen it, you should know it is a story about a guy, who was forced to move from Boston to a small town. There is a very strict order with a ban of dancing and loud music. So he challenges this system and even falls in love. With good soundtrack and lively atmosphere, this movie can make you dance.
Directed by Craig Brewer.
Starring Kenny Wormald,Julianne Hough, Andie MacDowell.
Trailer.

3."The Thing"
In the thriller "The Thing", paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they're infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter, to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish. "The Thing" serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name. (Official website)
Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.
Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen.

4."The Big Year"
Three man are at a crossroads -- one is experiencing a mid-life crisis, another a late-life crisis, and the third, a far from ordinary no-life crisis. From David Frankel, the director of The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me, comes a sophisticated comedy about three friendly rivals who, tired of being ruled by obligations and responsibilities, dedicate a year of their lives to following their dreams. Their big year takes them on a cross-country journey of wild and life-changing adventures. (Official website) And its soundtrack rocks!

Directed by David Frankel.
Starring Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Steve Martin.

5."Happy Life"
Keith, a happy hardcore obsessed record store owner, is desperate to stay afloat in modern day NYC. Will an old-school rave be his ticket back to the top? Or will candy necklaces and glow sticks be the death nails in his techno coffin? (Official website) Why did I choose it? I like its synopsis.

"The Rum Diary" (2011) - Clips and TV spot

Two new clips from "The Rum Diary" are out. I still don't like the main female character, featured in the first clip, but Paul Kemp has a different opinion. He is charmingly confused while talking to her husband in the second one. And if you don't want to spend 2 minutes watching official trailer, you should also check out that cool TV spot (the third video).

Martin Scorsese Tribute

There is nothing impossible for photographers, make-up artist and stylists. They can make you look like a distant Angelina Jolie's relative, even if you're a guy. However it takes more to create a character, which will look real and even could live beyond the borders of the picture. But Harper's Bazaar dedicates their story to Martin Scorese very successfully, turning the new generation of actors into well-known old characters.

Photographer Jason Schmidt did a great job remaking some of the greatest and most memorable scenes from Martin Scorese's movies. Chloe Moretz became young Jodie Foster from "Taxi Driver", Kate Bosworth looks like Michelle Pfeiffer from "The Age of Innocence", Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer portrayed Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett from "The Aviator", Vincent Piazza, Michael Pitt and Sir Ben Kingsley are "Goodfellas", Christina Hendricks with Jack Huston dance like in "Gangs of New York" and Emily Blunt tells that "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".

My favorite portrait is a picture of 14-year-old Chloe Moretz. She showed an incredible resemblance with Jodie, who was the same age while filming that movie.

Why "Real Steel" should be a box office hit?

If you think it matters only for those people, who made "Real Steel" or involved into screening it, you are wrong. It is very important for us, the audience, because it will influence other upcoming movies of the same genre.

More about "Real Steel" (2011)!

Some reasons why "Real Steel" shouldn't fail

1. Nowadays every movie with special effects is being converted into 3D. I was very happy that "Real Steel" was screened in my favorite normal 2D format. But if it doesn't earn enough money, greedy studios will probably be disappointed and will convert everything in their precious 3D.

2. This story takes place in the near future, where people stopped beating up to death other people to get some money and a shiny belt. It's robots' work and they do it in the more impressive and harmless (for humans, of course) way. Maybe, someone will bring this idea to life... Keep dreaming, yeah?

3. It will inspire Shawn Levy to make such good movies.

4. Hugh Jackman can buy himself a new car, because it's his birthday today. Dakota Goyo can buy his first car, which he really deserved.

5. And if "Transformers 3" became one of the most successful movies of this year and of a decade, "Real Steel" isn't worse. In fact, i liked it more, because there was not just action and special effects, this movie had an interesting father/son story. In addition, the final fight was great, it made me feel like I was watching a real wrestling.

I wish "Real Steel" to remain on the top and don't lose its box office fight.

"The Avengers" (2012) - New trailer

Finally, we know how the legendary group of comic books heroes will look on the big screen. I think that it is a bit hilarious that 6 powerful superheroes will fight one villain, who already appeared in "Thor" and is called Loki. As I expected this first trailer has showed us nothing new, except for a few seconds of green and angry Hulk. The rest of it hasn't changed at all. Thor is still throwing his hammer, Captain America hasn't understand that he isn't the main character, Black Widow looks beautiful, Hawkeye isn't impressive or talkative, Tony Stark is being charmingly selfish, Hulk looks scared and poor Nick Fury tries to make a good team.

My favorite line from this trailer is said by Tony Stark, who introduced himself to Captain America: "Genius. Billionaire. Playboy. Philanthropist." And his joke about Hulk was funny too.

Also I liked the music. It's a song "We're In This Together" by Nine Inch Nails.

Directed and written by Joss Whedon.
Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner.

"The Avengers" (2012) - Trailer preview

Entertainment Tonight presented a sneak peek of the upcoming trailer, which will finally show us how the movie will look like. Every week we get some new promo material of "The Avengers", so I can tell that Marvel knows how to make the audience extremely exited. They created an incredible fever before the first trailer's release. They've gone even further and released a very short preview to remind us about its trailer's importance. I'm not too exited about it, because I don't like all the main characters (I'm going to watch it just because of Robert Downey Jr. and his Tony Stark/Iron Man). And I don't think a new video will be something brilliant, but I'm curious to see what Joss Whedon is creating right now.

"My Week With Marilyn" (2011) - Trailer, synopsis

This upcoming film tells a story about Marilyn Monroe's first visit to the UK, while she was filming "The Prince and the Showgirl" along with Laurence Olivier. They had a very tense relationship, which made their work incredibly complicated. And then one of the most famous women of all times meets Colin Clark, a 23 year-old assistant, who is charming and totally adores her. They spend together one unforgettable week, which brings Marilyn some crazy thoughts about leaving her world and starting a new life here, in England. But there is a catch. She is a newlywed.

It seems to be very dramatic, sometimes desperate, but also romantic and breathtaking story of a famous woman and a guy, who has nothing but to show her a different world, where she can be herself and don't play someone's roles.

Based on a true story.

Starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dominic Cooper with Emma Watson and Judi Dench.
Directed by Simon Curtis ("David Copperfield" 2000, "A Short Stay In Switzerland" 2009).

"War Horse" (2011) - Second trailer

I've seen this new video yesterday, in the theater, before watching "Real Steel". It looked impressive on the big screen as every Steven Spielberg's film should. This video wasn't very different from the previous one, but I was touched again by its beautiful and dramatic music by the great composer John Williams.

This story has to be inspirational, touching and tragic. While watching second trailer I was wondering who will survive this war and who will be lost in the end. I can't be sure, but it looks like the boy or his magnificent horse should meet there their death and it will be a heartbreaking moment.

And don't forget it has a brilliant cast. The main parts are played by Jeremy Irvine (Albert), Emily Watson (Albert’s mum), Peter Mullan (Albert’s dad), Niels Arestrup (grandfather), David Thewlis (Lyons), Tom Hiddleston (Captain Nichols) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Major Stewart).

Top-5 movies of the week - 07.10 - 13.10

1."Real Steel"
A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, "Real Steel" stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. Directed by Shawn Levy who isn't a critics' favorite, it still may have a chance to earn lots of money. I'm sure Hugh did everything he can to make this movie more interesting. And the kid plays not bad at all.
Trailers.
Posters and some thoughts.

2."The Ides of March"
George Clooney not only just starred in this movie, but also directed it. It's not the first time he's playing in being director. The previous one was movie called "Leatherheads" and only the half of the critics liked it (audience liked it even less). "The Ides of March" are more successful. It is a story about a politician and his assistant, who really helps him to become the President of the USA. Of course, George Clooney kept for himself the big part and due to trailer he looks confident playing the one who is about to be the President. I'm more interested in someone, who is portraying his successful assistant. Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors nowadays, so it's not a big surprise that this is the third movie he presents this year. His character looks more interesting and complicated, because he has to choose between loyalty and his beliefs.
Trailer.

3."Toast" (2010)

This movie is about a boy who has a big talent in cooking, when his mother dreams about becoming a chef, but she can make just a good toast. After her death the stepmother arrives and she is definitely a wonderful cook. So competition between young Nigel and Mrs. Potter begins. IMDB says it is "The ultimate nostalgia trip through everything edible in 1960's Britain" and I totally agree with these words. Starring Freddie Highmore and Helena Bonham Carter, this movie is dramatic, smart and tasty. Both actors played great their roles. And it was very interesting to watch their characters relationship.

4."1911"
I must be honest. Critics hate this movie. They say it is 'overlong, disjointed' and 'bombastic, incoherent'. But I doubt it is that bad. I will definitely watch this story about China revolution, human strength and hope, when I get a chance. It has to be not bad historical drama, where Jackie Chan plays a very serious part.

5."The Way" (2010)
"The Way" is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends, and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son (played by Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. On "The Way," Tom meets other pilgrims from around the world, each with their own issues and looking for greater meaning in their lives: a Dutchman (Yorick van Wageningen), a Canadian (Deborah Kara Unger) and an Irish writer (James Nesbitt), who is suffering from a bout of writer's block.
